Scope

What we delivered.

Lobby bar & lounge furniture

Seating, banquettes, and occasional tables built for a room that pours cocktails at night and coffee at checkout.

Statement & decorative lighting

Layered fixtures, from the centerpiece that anchors the room to the low, warm pools of light that make a lobby feel like a living room.

Curated art walls & styling

Gallery walls and styled vignettes that echo Montclair's identity as one of New Jersey's great arts towns.

Sourced & installed

Specified, sourced, and installed by our own team, on spec and on schedule, so the space was guest ready.

The brief

A lobby that works at midnight and at checkout.

The MC is Montclair's Autograph Collection flagship, an art filled, urban chic hotel that nods to its arts town home and the energy of New York across the river. A property like this is judged on its public spaces, and the lobby carries the most weight. It had to read as a polished hotel lounge at check in and a neighborhood bar by night.

We focused on the ground floor. The seating package had to be comfortable enough to linger in and tough enough for hospitality traffic. The lighting was layered so the room could shift from bright and social to low and intimate as the evening went on. The art walls were curated to give the space a point of view that belongs to Montclair, not to a chain.

A lobby has one job, to make people want to stay a little longer. That is the brief we design to.
